The Foundation Diploma in Graphics & Illustration will help you to understand the world of both graphics and illustration, teach the skills and build your portfolio so you can progress onto a university degree in many visual communication majors such as visual media courses, graphic design courses, graphic communication courses, fashion imaging courses.
Graphics and Illustration are the two key areas in the world of Design. They are the two sides of the same coin and they rely on each other. Illustrators create images to be used by and in conjunction with a graphic designer, who creates the overall design and look of the finished article.
This course will give you the opportunity to learn about both sides, preparing you for degree level thinking. The course tutors will work closely with you to help you to understand research methods and how to implement them as you learn to reflect and evaluate on your work.
To be a successful student in a UK Art School, you must be able to think and work independently and develop your own individual creative ideas. This course will give you the freedom to explore your ideas, allow you to experiment, make mistakes and learn from these mistakes which is vital in the world of graphics and illustration.
Course Terms
Throughout the first two terms you will be set a number of projects which you will work on whilst developing your portfolio. You will also be given compulsory subjects and optional modules taught within practical small class environment. A specialist team Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts will help you with your degree progressions as well as your lecturers, who are all experienced designers bringing a wealth of industry knowledge.
The third term is all about your final graduation project. Final major projects have included branding for hotels and restaurants, advertising posters, typographic installations, packaging design, designed and illustrated book covers, hand rendered typography, children’s pop-up books, guide books, store illustrations, children’s games, info graphics and editorial illustration.
